Nowadays the computer is a common tool in engineers' work. Therefore it is convenient to provide students with learning aids such as application software conceived to encompass different subject-areas. In addition, from an educational point of view, computer may also help to improve learning standards, in particular in regards to: ability in deciding whether, when and how it is preferable to analyze or to synthesize; the possibility of making many quite reliable repetitive calculations in a very short time in order to get quantitative and complete information about a particular process (attention is on results and not on the way to get them); visual aids and promotion techniques can be used for reliable explanation of various issues. In regards to the learning path of an engineering student, using a computer could be helpful in several ways. In fact, it can replace traditional tools, such as charts and tables, allowing to save time with equivalent or better accuracy. On the other hand, an educational software package can stimulate the student to draw up a selfmade program; in this way he must necessarily get a deeper knowledge of the subject. Finally, students study more willingly, as computer (hardware + good software) facilitates their work, making it more satisfying, and even entertaining.
