Abstract Peoples will be enchanted by the level reached in Crete from the Minoan Civilization and the mystery surrounding its sudden end, someone wanted to even reconnect it to the cataclysm that caused the disappearance at sea of the mythical island of Atlantis (Plato, Timaeus 20d-27a; Critias 108c-109 and 113 to the end, Luce, 1978): the end of this civilization has become a real "myth" of archaeology. The Minoan Civilization, born in Crete in the center of the eastern Mediterranean, has grown to over a thousand years between 2800 and about 1450 BC (Warren, Hankey, 1989). During this period, its influence extended on the Cycladic archipelago; thick were the relations with the Middle East, Egypt and Greece. At the end of the Late Bronze Age, during the period of maximum splendor and expansion, this civilization disappeared for unknown reasons. Historical and archaeological studies have demonstrated the prevalence on the "Minoan kingdom" of the then nascent and warlike Mycenaean civilization coming from the Greek mainland. Other studies consider that such military abuse has occurred when had already started the decline of the Minoan empire, caused by a violent eruption of the volcano of Thera. The visit of the sites and the examination of the scientific literature on Minoan period allowed us to detect archaeological and geological elements sufficient to define a scenario more complex the decline.
