This paper proposes a parametric approach to evaluate the effects of optimising driving profiles on railway consumption. To this aim, a kinematic optimisation model is formulated and solvedfor different case studies, also allowing for the energy recovered in the braking phase. The numerical resultswere used to build tables and abacuses to provide a preliminary evaluation of effectiveness of energy saving strategies for different sections and train characteristics. The approach was tested on regional rail services in the Italian region of Campania, showing that energy-efficient driving strategies could producesignificant reductions in energy consumption.

Abstract
This paper proposes a parametric approach to evaluate the effects of optimising driving profiles on railway consumption. To this aim, a kinematic optimisation model is formulated and solvedfor different case studies, also allowing for the energy recovered in the braking phase. The numerical resultswere used to build tables and abacuses to provide a preliminary evaluation of effectiveness of energy saving strategies for different sections and train characteristics. The approach was tested on regional rail services in the Italian region of Campania, showing that energy-efficient driving strategies could producesignificant reductions in energy consumption.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
