The current geopolitical scenario will lead to a significant increase in military spending in Europe, raising questions about the compatibility of rearmament with the objectives of digital and environmental transition. This study analyses the economic and financial performance of major arms manufacturing companies, comparing ten-year financial data from Russia, Ukraine, and France, all of which have varying degrees of involvement in ongoing conflicts. Using quantitative analysis based on profitability and balance sheet indicators, the paper examines whether and to what extent the defence industry acts as a brake on ecological and technological transformation. The findings suggest that increased military spending may slow investment in sustainable innovation, highlighting a tension between national security and development compatible with respect for the environment and the civilian digital industry. The study contributes to the academic debate on the macroeconomic implications of the defence sector in the context of a global crisis and transition.

Abstract
The study contributes to the academic debate on the macroeconomic implications of the defence sector in the context of a global crisis and transition.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
