The paper discusses the potential intersections between the scientific study of decision making and the law. The attention is focused, in particular, on intertemporal choice and its mechanisms. The aim is twofold: to identify a new worthy topic in the research area emerging at the boundaries between law, cognitive and behavioural sciences and to sketch some preliminary considerations about the impact that this kind of studies may have on the method and the very object of law and legal science.
