The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm has seen exponential growth in recent years, finding applications in many different sectors. By applying IoT to tasks such as road and bridge monitoring and traffic control, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have been born. They are usually used to provide real-time traffic information to a user so that trips can be planned or to monitor a segment of a road to speed up rescue operations in the case of an accident. In this paper, an ITS is proposed that can: i) acquire several environmental parameters that are useful to the driver, ii) measure the speed, the number, and the type of vehicles that are passing on the road, iii) measure the temperature of a joint of a road or bridge in two different points, and to detect if there's a crash on the road barrier. Furthermore, a data management system has been developed in order to acquire the data from the sensors and provide them to a user via an internet connection. The proposed ITS has been deployed in a safe test environment, where its evaluation has been performed. From the obtained results, it is possible to observe that the evaluation test has been successful, and the ITS is able to provide in real-time all the desired data.

Abstract
From the obtained results, it is possible to observe that the evaluation test has been successful, and the ITS is able to provide in real-time all the desired data.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
