Abstract In this paper the geomorphological study of the coastal zone from Scario to Sapri towns (Campania, Southern Italy) has highlighted a clear conflict between the territorial anthropization and the natural coastal processes and environment. Since the 70’s the study area has experienced a massive anthropization that although it has contributed to a significant welfare of people and places, however it has been irreversibly damaged. In fact, the coastline has shown a series of instability (erosion and shoreline reconstruction) who have requested and require a massive public intervention of economic resources to limit the damage to infrastructure caused by storm surges. This study provides a contribution to this, either by drawing a complete picture of the situation of coastal geomorphological environment and coastal dynamics, both through the illustration of matrices for evaluating the impact of the works on the coastal environment.
