Abstract

A full scale Two Phase Extraction (TPE) remediation system was designed, installed and still operating at apetrochemical site located in north-eastern Italy. Main aim of the treatment is to simultaneously draw downshallow groundwater and to remove contaminated soil vapor from vadose zone (at least 2600 m3 of treatedsoil). Even considering only gaseous contamination, until the time frame this paper is referred, more than 25kg of VOCs were removed from soil and treated. Although groundwater remediation was not a specific objectof the project continuous pumping out accelerated improvement of the saturated zone quality. Treatmentoperations started-up on February, 2014 and it is supposed soil clean-up goals will be reached after 10operating months.
