We describe a Smart Tourism System called SMARTCAL, designed in the context of a R&D project aimed at supporting the tourism development in Calabria (a region in the South of Italy). The system is designed by considering Points and Events of Interest (PEOI) and their relationship with the local transport systems and infrastructures. A proactive tourist tour planner algorithm is proposed to generate optimised itineraries based on static and dynamic profiling of the users. Social media data are also taken into account for recommendations.

Abstract
