Detailed informations on anisometric micelles can be obtained by NMR methods and by a particular relaxation technique, currently known as 'Kerr effect'. The functions to be performed by a Kerr effect measuring system must include: (i) controlling data acquisition and storage; (ii) long term storing and data retrieving; (iii) quantitative analysis of data; (iv) hard copy and/or graphics output and/or long term storage of results; (v) controlling various experimental parameters; (vi) providing system initialization and calibration; (vii) communication with other systems or computers; and (viii) report generation. In this paper the authors propose a hardware and software solution which meets these requirements by coupling a Data Precision 6000 Universal Waveform Analyzer to an IBM AT Personal Computer.
