Abstract—We show that a general class of metamaterials characterized by balanced loss and gain exhibiting parity-time(PT) symmetry can be systematically generated and modeled analytically via a complex-coordinate extension of the transformation-optics approach. As a case study, we illustrate a PT-metamaterial-based physical implementation of a complex source point.

Abstract

Abstract—We show that a general class of metamaterials characterized by balanced loss and gain exhibiting parity-time(PT) symmetry can be systematically generated and modeled analytically via a complex-coordinate extension of the transformation-optics approach. As a case study, we illustrate a PT-metamaterial-based physical implementation of a complex source point.
