This paper first presents a brief analysis of the role of mass transport and chemical kinetics in three-way catalytic converters (TWC). Hence, a dynamic model is formulated incorporating all relevant physical and chemical phenomena to a good yet affordable degree of detail. The model also incorporates a mechanism known as “oxygen storage”, employed in recent TWC technology. The paper illustrates some simplifying assumptions introduced after a dimensional analysis. Then, a numerical solution produces simulation results, some of which are presented and discussed.

Abstract
This paper first presents a brief analysis of the role of mass transport and chemical kinetics in three-way catalytic converters (TWC). Hence, a dynamic model is formulated incorporating all relevant physical and chemical phenomena to a good yet affordable degree of detail. The model also incorporates a mechanism known as “oxygen storage”, employed in recent TWC technology. The paper illustrates some simplifying assumptions introduced after a dimensional analysis. Then, a numerical solution produces simulation results, some of which are presented and discussed.File in questo prodotto:
