The paper presents a Web Services-based platform for the definition and execution of Grid applications described through a work/low language, fulfilling QoS requirements, and implemented by basic and Internet-accessible services delivered by service providers. A first implementation of the platform employs a computation service developed on HiMM, a QoS-based, hierarchical middleware for Grid computing, extended to support the integration of domain specific Web Services invocations in the code of Grid applications. The platform was tested for the prediction of the effects of possible contingencies that compromise the operation of large electrical networks.

Abstract

The paper presents a Web Services-based platform for the definition and execution of Grid applications described through a work/low language, fulfilling QoS requirements, and implemented by basic and Internet-accessible services delivered by service providers. A first implementation of the platform employs a computation service developed on HiMM, a QoS-based, hierarchical middleware for Grid computing, extended to support the integration of domain specific Web Services invocations in the code of Grid applications. The platform was tested for the prediction of the effects of possible contingencies that compromise the operation of large electrical networks.
