The applicability of spherically invariant random processes to modeling gamma-distributed fields is demonstrated. This approach allows independent control of the amplitude distribution and correlation properties of the resulting process. Two alternative simulation procedures are introduced and applied to the generation of observations from a random field with gamma-distributed amplitude and prescribed correlation function. The compliance of the simulated pattern to the design distribution and autocorrelation is assessed via statistical tests, yielding acceptance of the null hypothesis at a satisfactory significance level.
