Energy harvesting from mechanical vibrations by means of magnetostrictive materials can be a suitable method of powering wireless sensor networks for bridge health monitoring. The aim of this paper is to present the main properties and modeling techniques of those materials and devices for energy harvesting purposes together with other smart materials devices. A novel possible magnetostrictive harvester is presented together with a numerical simulation of its performance in realistic cases.

Abstract
Energy harvesting from mechanical vibrations by means of magnetostrictive materials can be a suitable method of powering wireless sensor networks for bridge health monitoring. The aim of this paper is to present the main properties and modeling techniques of those materials and devices for energy harvesting purposes together with other smart materials devices. A novel possible magnetostrictive harvester is presented together with a numerical simulation of its performance in realistic cases.File in questo prodotto:
