Abstract We report our preliminary result on the automatic evaluation of the erosion value applied to the Tammaro River basin (Provinces of Benevento and Campobasso, Southern 1taly). The morphological phenomeoa which bave been documented through time in that area show the relationships between the geomorphologic aspects, drainage density and the meteorological and climate parameters. Therefore, the analysis of erosional processes in that area can give further insight about the above phenomena. Due to the lack of suitable instruments for the direct eva1uation of erosional features, we apply a GIS-based analytic technique relying on the study geomorphologic, meteorologic and climate parameters of the area. We also compare the find results with those obtained through the use of grapbical techinques.
